I needed to replenish my supply of Bayer Aspirin. I walked into my local Walgreen Pharmacy anxious to walk out quickly. In the aisle labeled pain reliever was a wall of more than 2,500 products. Blue packages, red packets, multi-colored packages and everything in between.
I looked for a wall of yellow. I wanted to find the yellow section. I grabbed the particular SKU I needed. Bayer Aspirin in a yellow box. In less than ten seconds, I found the product I wanted.
A headache relieved.
Finding the Yellow Brand called Bayer
What design thinking went into creating a powerful visual lighthouse to send out a brand beam to your customers. Can you quickly find your product on the shelf?
If you are marketing a product sold at retail, you must do your design thinking from the store – in context. It doesn’t matter what your graphic design looks like in your conference room.
It is all about the shelf and sitting next to your competitors.
Coke is red. Pepsi is blue. Apple is white. Stouffer is orange. Tiffany is robin’s egg blue. UPS is brown. T-Mobile is magenta. John Deere is green. Caterpillar is yellow. Post-it- Notes is canary yellow. Home Depot orange. Target is red.
What color does your brand own?
