Most of the leads generated for my consulting business come from raising awareness through my blog and networking. If you are keeping score, this is my 1,254 blog, and I started writing on September 9, 2010. Since starting my consulting business four years ago this month, my dance card has been quite full, with most of the leads from my content marketing efforts.
A few weeks ago, after completing a post, I wondered what it would be like if I had to tell this story in under one minute and in a video. I’m familiar with the software called Animoto, so I decided to download and subscribe again.
I plan to squeeze the essence of some of my most important themes into a brief video that uses a few words, photos, and on occasion, video clips.
My wife and I have used the program for several projects like a video for my Mom’s ninetieth birthday, and recently, I put together this video about our grandson Bodhi’s first six months.
YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter
I post the marketing videos on Tuesdays to my social media feeds and, to my surprise, after a few weeks, generated a few leads already that may turn into opportunities. I don’t need to reach tens of thousands of people – I only need to reach people who I can help with advice, counsel, and coaching.
If you are looking for a new platform to help tell your story, Animoto offers lots of templates, although I never use them as I like to start from scratch.
With the subscription, you get access to thousands of licensed-free music, photos, and video clips to illustrate your message. There is a free version to play around with too – but after a while, you’ll probably find it limiting.
Short. Light-hearted. One Message.
My main recommendation is to keep your videos short, light-hearted, and focused on one message per video. Animoto is another way for brands to tell their story.
Also, commit to a regular schedule and try and stick to it. If you plan to share each video weekly, get a few completed before you begin to take the pressure off producing one each week.
If I can be of help, let me know. I’m not getting any affiliate fee from Animoto. If I did, I’d tell you.
Think Campaign or Series
For the next few months, I’m focused on my One Minute Marketing Moments campaign – to remind businesses in each lesson, about an essential idea about marketing like focus and understanding marketing as being helpful.
My goal is to be entertaining, helpful, and to share a few lessons along the way. The target audience is people who own or manage small to mid-sized businesses, who need guidance to help them tell their stories.
The first video is a friendly reminder that people want to buy from an expert, not a generalist. Focus matters.
