This is a guest post by Elizabeth Hines, a social media consultant about Clubhouse.
Conversations about Clubhouse are everywhere right now, and the chances are that your business is looking towards it and seeing if it’s right for you. However, the question remains: What is the Clubhouse app, how can it be helpful to you and your business, and is it with spending time?
In this guest blog post at The Marketing Sage, I’m going to talk you through everything you need to know about the app so you can quickly answer these questions yourself.
What is the Clubhouse App? – Social Audio
Clubhouse is a relatively new app, launched back in 2020 at what some people may call the ‘perfect moment.’ Upon release, it was hailed as the new Twitter or at least a trustworthy competitor, but others will argue that it’s something unique.
The app works because users can sign up, create an account, and then create and upload audio into virtual rooms. So, it’s kind of like Twitter but with audio that gets posts in individual rooms that anybody can access. Yikes. On paper, that might not sound like the best idea; at least it wasn’t when I first heard about it (imagine the trolls!). The app is currently only available on IOS – sorry Android.
However, defying expectations, the app steadily drew in around two million users and is already worth over $1 billion. Clubhouse is a new kind of discussion app. A virtual room creator has control over the room, sets the topics, decides who can speak at what time, and other users even raise their hands when they want to talk.
Critics have described the app as an ‘interactive podcast’ where anybody can get involved, a moderated audio Twitter. What Draws People In?
Perhaps the most lucrative draw of Clubhouse is the fact that it’s exclusive. Anybody can download the app and create an account, but you can only start accessing the virtual rooms once you’ve been invited to join the app by an existing member using the unique virtual room link.
Clubhouse’s draw can make it hard for people to get onto the app, but it helps ensure that users who use the app are genuinely interested in using it.
“The other primary problem that has arisen is the fact that there are few moderation techniques. Because the platform uses audio, they can’t use bots to moderate the content.
Only the room hosts and other users can do this, which could be a gateway for hate speech making its way onto the platform,” explains Marie Tarrant, a business writer at Resumention and Write my essay.
Nevertheless, people love the app, and the systems that are currently in place are working well. The platform is growing and evolving, and it’s exciting to see where it will lead in the future.
Using Clubhouse for Your Business
First, if you want to use Clubhouse, you need to make sure you’re getting an invitation from somebody already on the app, but if you’re able to get one, this could mean many great things for your company.
Since the app is exclusive and you can connect with every other user, you’ll find some of the most influential business leaders in the world currently using the app already. Leaders like;
- Elon Musk
- Mark Zuckerberg
- Gary Vaynerchuk
- Shark Tank investors (TV Show)
- Grant Cardone
- Jim Kwik
- Tiffany Haddish
With two million users, it doesn’t matter what industry you’re in; you’ll be able to keep up with the latest trends.
Also, you can network with people throughout your niche, creating new opportunities, getting to know everything that’s going on, and making new deals and connections that can benefit everyone involved.
“Based on audio, The app focuses on interactions that are a lot more personal. But there’s no need for things like having to dress up and look the part since there’s no images or video capability,” shares Jason Turner, a project manager at Academized and Dissertation service.
In short, this app provides you access to an incredible range of people, and you never know where these connections are going to take you.
Tips for Using Clubhouse
- Be precise with how you speak, making a note of your tone and inflection to portray your message correctly. Think of being on stage at a live conference. This is a performance.
- The influencer program has already been released and is known as the ‘Creator Pilot Program’ but is only open to the top 40 users.
- Be precise with the rooms, people, and clubs you follow. Being too random is going to clog your feed up with content you have to interest in.
- When growing an audience or following, you’ll want to start in smaller rooms since there’s more chance to get up on stage and share your worth.
Conclusion
As you can see, Clubhouse offers new opportunities to the business world like never before, and since it’s such a new app, it’s fascinating to see where it’s going to go and what opportunities it will bring you and everyone else in the future.
