A mindset is the established set of attitudes held by someone.
As a marketer, your mindset influences how you build strategies, insights are harvested, and plans get put into action. In sum – mindsets matter if you want to solve problems.
McKinsey & Company recently posted six mindsets for these uncertain times. I’m sharing them because your mindset has always been relevant – even before Covid. And I’m adding a bonus seventh to this list.
Six Problem Solving Mindsets for Very Uncertain Times
- BEING EVER-CURIOUS – Ask why conditions or assumptions are so until you arrive at the root of the problem.
- TOLERATE AMBIGUITY – Good problem solving has lots of trial and error. So embrace imperfection, tolerate ambiguity, and develop a gambler’s sense of probabilities.
- HAVE A DRAGONFLY EYE: By viewing a problem through multiple lenses, we can identify threats or opportunities beyond the periphery of vision.
- EXPERIMENT RELENTLESSLY – Don’t take a lack of external data as an impediment -it may be a gift to create your experiments.
- TAP INTO COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE – The broader the circle of information you access, the more likely it is that your solution will be novel and creative.
- SHOWING AND TELLING – Connect your audience with the problem and then use a combination of logic and persuasion to get action.
Bonus Mindset
- BE HELPFUL, HUMAN, AND HAPPY – By showing up to serve, it shifts how you do everything. When you act human, your empathy can lead you to more effective persuasion tactics. And when you are happy, you attract others to want to work with you.
What’s your mindset like as you plan for 2021?
