Why?

Simon Sinek has been speaking for years at conferences. When Covid hit, and his speaking gigs collapsed, he had to pivot.

But he never pivoted from his company’s WHY, just the what.

In a podcast interview with Mitch Joel, he provided a beautiful metaphor to help you think about the permanence of why.

At the center of most analog clocks are the hands fixed.

The arms move around the face to change time.

Your WHY is at the center of the clock.

Fixed.

And, it never moves.

But the hands move.

Where Simon was speaking in the past, he is pivoting the “what” he does, to teach online.

WHY, Simon.

Sinek’s company’s ‘why’ is crystal clear and like the center of the clock, stay fix.

To inspire people to do the things that inspire them so that, together, each of us can change our world for the better.

And Simon remains an unshakeable optimist, even through these changing times. He told Mitch in the interview that people should stop using the phrase, unprecedented to describe these times. The Internet created an unprecedented change for businesses. The downturn in 2008 created an unparalleled shift in employment and how people worked.

When you know your WHY, and have a grounded center.

But it sure helps you know what time it is.
