It isn’t digital-first technology but it is one of the most underused, and powerful marketing weapons I know. The stunningly simple, handwritten thank you note is still not appreciated by most businesses yet it’s a simple way to emotionally connect to your customer.

As you may recall, I had a little incident with my car. As Elaine would say, Yada, Yada, Yada, I find myself at CarMax. You can read the whole story here about me and Mohammed, the delightful salesman who helped make this a pleasant and positive experience.

Thank You Notes

I didn’t expect to receive a thank you note, handwritten from their corporate office. It instantly humanized a big company through the power of handwriting and personalization. Some human being named Kristina, sitting in a cubicle, felt that she wanted to show the company’s appreciation for the post I wrote.

What I love about this marketing approach.

  1. It is so human and personal.
  2. A real person put thought into expressing appreciation.
  3. It didn’t have any CarMax logo.
  4. The card simply printed just said thank you.
  5. No one was upselling me.
  6. Kristina, the writer acknowledge that my post was celebrating individuals at CarMax (Mohammed, Abdul and MaryLouise).

When was the last time your company wrote some personal thank you notes to customers? I don’t mean signing a card or typing a letter. I mean handwritten cards to say thanks.

Thank you Kristina, for keeping it real.
