Getting noticed by an audience keeps getting more difficult every year. There are only a few ways where marketers can get someone to pay attention to a message.
And the critical word is PAY because attention is in limited supply. To get someone to listen, read or watch your message, you must do one of these things and communicate it quickly and effectively.
- Helpful. Your information, product, service, or offering help a customer solve a specific problem.
- Different. You are the only company that can solve a problem, so they want to learn more.
- Quicker. Your solution is faster than the alternatives and can save time.
- Cheaper. What you sell has a lower price but comparable quality to other options.
- Simpler. Your service is easier to use and makes life more convenient and less complicated.
- Better. What you sell is demonstrably better offering greater value, as measured by the customer.
Pick One
Marketing allows you to tell a story and explain how you can do one of these things. By removing friction, you can gain audience attention and be noticed by those you want to reach. It always helps when you understand the needs of who you serve and what they wish for so that you can bring them help. When your solution or product can become part of their story, customers will listen.
Without understanding their pain, no one will pay attention to what you have to say. Yes, gimmicks will attract their eyes, but they will quickly look away if it is just fluff and no value.
Marketing that doesn’t meet one of these six needs is just noise.
