Here is a shortlist of things I used to do.

I used to buy business suits and ties and work in an office.

I used to go to the store for groceries.

I used to answer the phone at home when it rang.

I used to buy film, load it into my camera, and take snapshots.

I used to take that film to get it developed and printed.

I used to listen the voice mail on my land line phone each day instead of monthly.

I used to carry a loyalty card on my key ring for the grocery store.

I used to have a key to start my car.

I used to buy a car from a car dealer.

I used to go to the bank to take out cash from my account.

I used to deposit checks by handing it to a teller.

I used to buy soda.

I used to go to the pet store to buy litter and cat food. (I still have a cat, Shazmina but the litter and cat food shows up at my front door from Chewy)

I used to get two newspapers delivered to my house and have ten pounds of paper to schlepp to recycling.

I used to go to a store and bring home movies on VHS tapes and return by the next day or pay a penalty.

I used to call a taxi to get to the airport.

I used to drink water from the tap.

I used to eat red meat.

I used to listen to the car radio.

I used to have a car. (My wife and I now share one car)

I used to watch the local news.

I used to go to the movies.

I used to watch commercials.

I used to get Netflix Disks delivered via mail.

Somedays, I realized how many things have changed, slowly and I don’t think much about all the people afffected.

How Prepared is Your Business for What’s Next?

Do you believe your business will go on and on without disruption? What is your brand doing today that will prevent it from falling into lists like this in a year or two? If your category is changing slowly, you may not notice that your products and services are gradually becoming obsolete.

Do you have a plan B or alternative strategy just in case? Change happens slowly, and then suddenly, it upends everything. What aren’t you doing today that will change someones business?

There is nothing permanent except change.
