Why do companies need brand standards and a brand sherrif? Fonts and color matter.

When you don’t have brand consistency, your image can slowly slip away. Suddenly, people take liberty with a logo or a message. That’s a problem. A big problem.

Graphic designer Mostafa Azzam had some fun with this idea. He wondered what happens if you suddenly see a brand in a different font and color scheme. For example, what happens when Gillette uses Google’s colors and font for their brand.

Of course, this is an extreme example, but it illustrates the point of what happens when a brand’s image is seen through another brand’s image.

How you see and feel about the brand is different. When Mercedes morphs into McDonald’s colors and logo, it dramatically allters the brand. SpaceX seens through FedEx logo shocks the senses.

As Azzam likes to say, fonts matter.
