Snoo solves a problem for new parents. It is a smart crib that gently rocks and sways a newborn. It provides white noise for the room that helps the child calming fall back asleep.
The MIT team who created this product started with a specific problem. The founders wanted to determine how to mimic the womb where sounds, swaying and noises gently rock a baby. Babies don’t need quiet or a flat bed. They need something womb-like. The bed was designed by uber-designer star Yves Behar.
The sound in the womb is loud almost as loud as a vacuum cleaner. Adults fall asleep in moving cars, trains, and planes because of the rhythmic motion. The sound of blood whooshing through the arteries of a mom is calming. So the sound is functional.
Snoo gives them those rhythms and sounds to the baby.
What’s SNOO?
Snoo can help parents solve a critical problem and give that little extra amount of sleep that can make all the difference in the world. The founder doesn’t see it as a magic bed since a baby with a dirty diaper or if hungry, will still need to be picked up and taken care of by a parent.
Another feature of SNOO is the swaddle that keeps the baby secure and prevents them from rolling over. The ingenious device is brilliant at helping keep a baby from sleeping on their belly and preventing what some think can be part of SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome.
The bed is designed for the first six months to give parents an extra edge to help the baby learn to fall back asleep.
