Is Workplace Productivity on Your Mind Too?
I have seen so many of my friends leave jobs with terrific opportunities with fair salaries.
Upon probing them, I realized that most of them left because the workplaces were simply not inspiring. Most employers make that mistake. They don’t realize that fostering the right atmosphere that encourages employees to do their best is essential in driving productivity. It leads to happiness, fulfillment, and satisfaction in the workplace, which results in high retention rates.
Moreover, inspired and motivated employees will gladly take care of your customers and be committed and engaged in helping you realize success. The good thing is that building an inspiring workplace isn’t difficult.
Here are five simple but powerful ways we have embraced, resulting in a highly inspiring kickass workplace.
Let employees see their worth in the organization.
Employees want to feel that their presence in the workplace is valued and essential. Knowing that they are waking up to a job where their contribution is appreciated is inspiring enough to want to be part of the team.
As management at our company, we help employees understand how they fit in the bigger picture. We set company goals and then set individual goals and expectations.
We explain to the employees how working on their individual goals will help the company realize the overall objectives. Of course, we keep track of the progress, providing encouragement, support, and tools to achieve their goals.
How well do you tie individual and team performance to the company’s goals?
Support personal growth
An inspiring workplace is not just focused on the company’s growth but also tries to empower employees to realize individual growth.
We are consciously aware of the employees’ needs to get ahead in their careers and life in our company. We show an invested interest in each employee’s success. We do this by giving people who show interest in specific areas a chance to learn more about that particular area. The finance manager interested in marketing can sit in on those team meetings to gain exposure to this area.
We have seen this open up opportunities for them to hone their skills. We also support employees in enrolling in online programs in their area of interest. We have had different training programs, including project management program, communication skills program, customer service training, and financial management, among others.
How successful are you at learning about individual contributors’ interests outside of their department or team?
Reward and recognize
Setting goals for employees isn’t enough.
Applauding their efforts and rewarding exemplary work goes a long way in inspiring dedication to individual duties. It is easy for employees to see themselves as some working machines if you don’t stop and regularly give them a pat on the back. Moreover, rewarding employees doesn’t have to be expensive.
I have seen that just publicly recognizing employees for a job well-done works wonders for employees’ morale. But, we have also gone out of our way to offer incentives such as gym memberships, lunch coupons at prestigious restaurants, and personalized gifts to our employees. This inspires the rest of the team to follow suit and produce results.
How successful is your company at showing appreciation to the individual or team contributors?
Give your staff a voice.
I firmly believe that everyone has something to contribute if given a chance.
There is always something to learn by listening to other people. But, what is most important is that giving people a chance to air their opinions and ideas shows your value to them. I inspire my leadership team to encourage the team’s contribution. Our workplace is welcoming for everyone to bring to the table their ideas, opinions, and thoughts on different issues. This allows me to be creative and innovative, which I have seen as genuinely inspiring.
Is your organization always bringing a fresh voice or perspective to essential conversations?
Make the workplace visually pleasing.
Another area that most employers forget but have the potential to inspire workers is the physical appearance of the workplace.
The office isn’t just a place of work; with a creative approach to design, you can create an environment that supports productivity and the well-being of the employees. If your team is starting to come back to the office a few days a week, making it feel hip and happy – helps.
One of the first things we did was create a flexible workplace by breaking down walls to encourage movement and collaboration. We also brought in adjustable and movable desks and created breakout areas and an inviting meeting area. Additionally, we allow employees to personalize their work areas. They can bring in their family portraits, extraordinary artworks, and plants and suggest a color scheme that inspires them.
How much fun and inviting is your workplace today?
Conclusion
Building an inspiring workspace boils down to focusing on what makes your employees happy.
Happy employees make happy customers. Genuinely showing an interest in their wellbeing, personal growth, and satisfaction in the workplace can be truly inspiring. What’s better, your efforts are reciprocated with improved productivity and company growth. The above five ideas are just some of the things we have adopted in our company.
Whatever inspires your workforce, invest in that and see the magic happen.
